Good morning. I have a theme for you. Today is all about AI limits and who pays for them. ChatGPT is folding its tabs together, Grok is rationing its agent, and DeepSeek wants a coding agent that bothers you less. Apple also has a robot on the way, reportedly.

OpenAI will merge ChatGPT’s Chat and Work tabs, with one shared allowance

OpenAI told users by email that it will combine the Chat and Work tabs in ChatGPT. You will start an idea in a chat and let ChatGPT carry it through in the same place. It can build websites, make presentations or do web tasks while you review its work.

Codex stays as its own section in the ChatGPT desktop app. But ChatGPT and Codex will draw from the same token allowance. OpenAI says most people won’t notice. Some heavy users may wait for resets more often. It goes to a small group first, with no dates yet.

Why it matters If you use Codex for your site and ChatGPT for writing, both now eat from one bucket. I would plan big coding jobs with that in mind.

My take: one tab is easier to understand. One shared limit is easier to hit. Anthropic made the same move in September, so this is where AI apps are heading.

Musk says Grok Bot cost too much to run as users hit limits

Grok Bot users complained that their usage limits ran out fast, with some waiting days for a reset. Elon Musk replied on 1 November. He said “the cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue”. Grok Bot is xAI’s AI agent, separate from the Grok chatbot. It starts on the $30 a month Premium plan.

Two weeks ago Musk said he had “never seen anything grow this fast”. Back in early October Grok Bot had 800,000 paid weekly users, more than double the month before.

Why it matters AI agents are costly to run. Cheap plans with big limits may not last, so don’t build a business process on one.

DeepSeek open-sources Super-Agent, a coding agent that watches team chat

DeepSeek has released Super-Agent, a free coding agent prototype under the MIT licence. It works on one GitHub repository. An approved person asks for work, and it opens a task, does it, and replies in the same thread, for example with a pull request.

It can also listen to team chat in Feishu, ByteDance’s workplace app. It only acts when asked or when a team rule allows it. By default it does not merge its own code. DeepSeek says it is “not an official DeepSeek product”, and the public code differs from its internal version.

Why it matters It is a free, open look at how agents may join your team chat. DeepSeek is pointing it at Claude Code.

Its motto is “Take as little human attention as possible.” I like that goal. Still, read the code before you give it your repo.

Google won’t promise click data in Search Console’s AI report

A post from a Google Search Central event said click and query data for AI features was coming to Search Console. Google’s Gary Illyes pushed back on 2 November. He said “we don’t have anything to announce yet”. He added that the team wants to give “data that makes sense”.

John Mueller said reading it as a “no” was odd. Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Roundtable still doubts clicks are coming.

Why it matters You still can’t see how many clicks come from AI Overviews and AI Mode on their own. I suggest you keep measuring with your own analytics and watch landing page traffic.

Our guide on how AI search finds your site covers what you can control today.

iOS 27.3 beta should land today with Apple Intelligence in China

MacRumors expects the first iOS 27.3 developer beta on 3 November, US time. It brings Apple Intelligence to China for iPhone 15 Pro and newer, with Alibaba’s Qwen working inside Siri. Apple says the public release comes in December.

Apple is also testing iOS 27.2.1, likely with fixes for the iPhone Duo. A macOS 27.2.1 may stop command-line tools from trusting the compromised eMudhra certificates.

Why it matters If you build iPhone apps, a new beta means a new round of testing. If you just own an iPhone, watch for 27.2.1.

iPhone Duo owners can’t change Display Zoom after setup

Some iPhone Duo owners found that Display Zoom is missing from Settings. You choose Default, Medium or Large during setup, and then you are stuck with it. One owner says Apple Support told them to erase the phone and set it up again. MacRumors confirmed the option is still missing on iOS 27.2.

Why it matters Many people use larger text and icons. Test your site at big text sizes, because some visitors can’t easily turn them down or up.

Our post on touch-friendly buttons and menus helps with the same problem.

Apple’s HomeView Ultra robot reportedly has a 9-inch screen that swivels

The Information reports that Apple is building a larger, robotic HomeView. A prototype has a 9-inch screen on a swivelling arm. It would use a camera and sensors to act on its own, like turning on lights when you walk in.

Apple reportedly hopes to launch it in 2027 for around US$1,000, but it could slip to 2028. Apple has not announced it.

Why it matters Smart home screens are becoming another place people search and shop. It is a good reason to keep your business details tidy everywhere.

It reportedly looks like the old iMac G4 lamp. I’m here for it.

Samsung’s Android XR glasses reportedly launch in mid-December

A ChosunBiz report says Samsung and Google will launch Samsung Intelligent Eyewear in the US and South Korea in mid-December. The glasses run Android XR and Gemini, and current models have front cameras. Gentle Monster and Warby Parker styles are reportedly part of the line.

There is no price yet. Samsung has only called it “a reasonable price” for a premium product.

Why it matters Gemini on your face means more questions asked out loud. Clear answers on your pages help AI assistants quote you.
